Sage - Mature spayed Female Australian Shepherd

Sage has been a companion for my 92 year old uncle for over 12 years.  My uncle has moved to assisted living and Sage needs a home.  She is 13 1/2 years old and the vet has checked her out finding nothing wrong except some obvious stiffness. My uncle has not let her sleep inside for many years as he has not easily been able to let her out.  Sage is hard of hearing.  She used to spend a lot of time inside but always preferred outside unless it was really cold weather.

I am here temporarily form Cincinnati to help my uncle and find it difficult to transport her to Cincinnati and am not sure she would adapt to being an inside dog.  I do not want to put Sage down as she is such as sweet girl.

My uncle has  not been able to care for her as I would have liked, and she is matted in several areas.   I got her groomed but did not cut out all the mats as she is staying outside.

I think an ideal situation is a home with some outside shelter (porch, barn, garage) and someone who enjoys a happy, cheerful dog for walks, inside visits, and being a devoted  companion.  She is a really good example of the breed. Sage's best friend is Spot - pictured here with her. It is safe to say she is good with cats. She is also good with other dogs.

Contact Pete for more information about Sage - pgayers52@fuse.net

Jetta, is a great little dog that had a not so great start in life!  She found herself a mother of 9 puppies at the ripe age of 9 months herself!  As well as being passed between different owners for reasons unknown to me!

She is a darling tri-colored, soon to be spayed, one year old Border Collie.  Jetta has quickly made friends with my pack and loves a good game of chase with my other foster dog, who is her age.  She is quiet and well mannered, acting more like a mature dog, than a pup.

Jetta is crate trained, house broken and gets along fine with cats.  Her previous owner stated that she chased their horses, but I've found that she barks at mine but stops when given a verbal correction.

Jetta is a bit unsure when meeting new people, but warms up quickly and is improving the more socialization she gets.  She is agile and athletic and I believe she has the talent to be a fun agility dog!

This little girl will blossom with a loving home that can build her trust and provide her with adequate exercise!  She is living with children in her foster home, but would need to be properly introduced to them.

If you would like more info on Jetta,
please email or call Susan at shetlands@yahoo.com or (406) 431-4887

Gus (aka Forrest Gump) is a  Registered AKC Yellow Lab. He  just turned 6 yrs - Neutered male- approx 75 pounds

Like Forrest Gump who was born outside the norm, Gus is still a most loveable and admirable dog.  An AKC registered lab you can hardly tell he has "challenges".  Gus was born with a condition named Cerebellar Hypoplasia, aka - wobbly dog - meaning his legs sometimes do not go where the rest of his body is heading.  He is crate trained and stays near his people or bed.  He has difficulty navigating a lot of stairs but can get in and out of a vehicle.  While he is not leashed trained, he happily sticks close by on trail walks.  He gets along with most dogs and is respectful of cats.  Even though he is fond of little children, we recommend a home with older children because he is a resource (food) guarder.  Gus has always been an outside dog, but since he is crate trained it's possible to work on developing indoor manners.  He is what he is, like Forrest Gump: loyal, true, loveable, sweet, and hoping to become a great addition to an extra ordinary home.

For more information or to meet Gus call 406-961-2400, Hamilton MT

Mandy is a very, very sweet loving 2 year old spayed female - Jack Russell/Chihuahua cross.  She loves kids, men, women, young, old - she should be in a home where she is the only dog.  She likes cats, playing, running, cuddling.

I rescued her from a high kill shelter and she had been badly abused - was skin and bones.  I've had her for one and one half years. The first year was delightful, she got along well with my other 2 dogs.  Six months ago she started confronting one of my dogs, the confrontations escalated to where she picks a fight 5-6 times a day.  I have consulted dog behavioralists - she's making a power move and wants to be the alpha dog.

She's beautiful and has big soulful brown eyes.  I want a forever home for her -where she can be happy and carefree and be the dog she is destined to be. She is high energy and does walk well on a leash.  She does need a fenced yard

Please call or email Sue at : LadyPam0522@yahoo.com (406)240-7862 if you would like to meet Mandy.

"Finn"  came to foster care as a timid, shy under-socialized boy.  He was in a kill shelter in Utah and truly looked as he has lost his last friend.

He is a young pup of about 9 months and appears to be a Border Collie/Aussie X.  Although he should act like a puppy he is wise beyond his years; like he has had to survive on his own for a period of time.

Finn is beginning to warm up and realize people are OK.  Sometimes he even forgets and showers me with a couple of kisses on my nose!  He wants to like people and trust them, but he has not had the opportunity to see their good side.  Finn needs a home where his owner will use positive reinforcement and continue his education with obedience classes as well as provide him exposure to many people and situations to build his confidence!

He is sweet and kind, but just scared and shy.  Upon arriving he did not how to walk on a leash or go up and down stairs or ride in a car.  He has now had all these experiences as well as baths and crate training. He is learning a recall too and realizes treats are good!

Finn will do best in a home with another confident dog and will need a securely fenced yard at this point. He is starting to show his puppy side and is even learning that toys are fun!

Finn,  does become overwhelmed in new situations, but responds well to patience and gentle reassurances. With an adopter who has the time and patience to complete his formal education and continue the work on socialization and building his confidence,
I am certain he will become a top notch lad!

In his foster home, Finn lives with other dogs, cats, horses and children and is perfecting his house-training skills.

Prior to adoption he will be vaccinated, neutered and micro-chipped.

Please understand that he will only placed into a home that can provide him a safe and secure environment.

Carter is a 2 year old spayed female shepherd mix. Talk about a sweet dog. Carter gives you the best greeting in the morning when the alarm clock goes off and will snuggle in bed with you if you let her. She loves people and kids so much so that she starts wagging her tail if she sees someone across the street. When she is inside, she loves to play with her rope toy, balls and bones. She also chases her tail (and catches it) and she loves to rub her back on her bones and toys. (Goofy is a good word to describe her). She'll also play by herself if you don't want to play with her.

When she is outside, she loves to go on a walk in town or out on the trail. She is a great trail dog and listens to "come on" and "wait". She is bike friendly (she's gone mountain biking and she knows how to run along side a bike on a leash in town). She also enjoys going to the dog park to play with other dogs. She loves to run and is super fast but she doesn't stray far from you.

She is housebroken, crate trained and she has had obedience training and is clicker trained. She walks/runs well on a leash in town. She has gone camping and stays in the truck for hours without destroying anything and she loves going for rides in the car.

Please call Amanda at (434) 242-9988 to meet Carter.

ROBYN: Border Collie/Lab; Spayed Female; 1-1/2 years old; current on vaccinations.

When Robyn arrived in her foster home the description on her shelter intake sheet said: "Robyn is awesome. She loves to go for walks and snuggle up with you." She's very excited to come in the house and check everything out, but soon settles down nicely with a chewie and displays good house manners. Robyn would do best in a home with older kids where she has a chance to settle into an established routine. She gets along well with most other dogs, loves the water and enjoys car rides.

Please call Judy at (406) 961-3029 to arrange a meeting with Robyn.

PARKER: Black Lab/Cattle dog mix; Neutered male; about 1 year old

Parker is initially shy around new people, but he warms up quickly and turns into a shadow who craves love and attention. Parker does well on leash and would make a great walking or running buddy. When he first came to his foster home he was hesitant to go in the house, so his good inside manners were a pleasant surprise. He loves to run and play with other dogs and shows no aggressive tendencies.

Please email Judy@mtcan.org or call (406) 961-3029 to arrange a meeting with Parker.

Lola came from a reservation in Idaho and was found with 2 sicks pups that she lost. She is a very nice dog who loves being with you. Housebroken, spayed, and up to date on shots, Lola is ready to go home. She isn't good with cats, but is great with other dogs, and loves people. She is medium sized, around 50 pounds. The spots on her nose in the pic are all cleared up now too.

Meet Rocky, a sweet little dog who is on the mend from a spot of bad luck. He was a stray who came into rescue with a shattered femur that had gone untreated for several months. Due to the age and extent of the break, his leg had to be removed. Free of that useless nuisance, this intrepid little survivor is ready to get on with life.

We believe he is a Beagle/Rottweiler Cross. Rocky is a small to medium-sized dog, and we estimate his age at around 1 year. In some ways, he is wiser than his years but still has plenty of play and hasn’t let his circumstances affect his attitude or enthusiasm. At about 40 lbs, he’s the perfect size to keep up with any activity and yet not take up too much room. He is one cute little package – perfect size, expressive eyes with Groucho Marks eyebrows, and beautiful tri-colors.

His “tripod” status doesn’t slow him down AT ALL, and he runs, jumps, plays and generally keeps up with his two-legged and four-legged friends. He gets along with other dogs, and always has a smile and a wag for everyone. His foster mom is supplementing his house manners with some basic obedience. He is neutered, current on his shots, and is learning to live with a cat (but may chase them if they are outside and run). He is a fun little guy to have around.

If you are ready for a smart, little tripod superstar in your life, call Lori at 880-4813. Don’t let this special guy get away!

CHER: Pomeranian mix; Spayed Female; Senior (7 - 10 years); about 22 pounds; current vaccinations

This is an awesome little lady in search of another human companion.  Cher lost her home when her owner passed away and the family could not keep her.
When they turned her into the shelter there were no records to verify her age.  Other than being deaf (a big advantage during thunder storms or
fireworks!) Cher seems to be in good health with plenty of energy and spunk.
Although she doesn't join in their play, she gets along fine with other dogs and is good with cats.  She has a sweet disposition and bonds quickly with her person.  Cher likes to be included in activities, but doesn't put up a fuss if she has to stay home or wait in the car.

Please email Judy@mtcan.org or call (406) 961-3029 to arrange a meeting with Cher.

Daisey is a young spayed female Rhodesian Ridgback Cross -- about 1 1/2 years old. She gets along with some dogs and cats are ok. She is very smart and loves to be out in the woods where she can run and be free. With her own human she would be a perfect companion, very smart and very loving.

Dallas - is a small female Staffordshire Terrier mix - about 18 months old. She is possibly a Pitbull/Chihuahua, weighing in at about 40 pounds. Dallas knows her name, sit, and knows what NO means. She loves to be with people and gets along well with most other dogs. With her very short coat, she is not a big shedder. She has a very sweet disposition and even likes cats, although she tends to play a bit too rough with them. Dallas is a young girl and has a fair amount of energy that needs to be channelled. A daily walk, and things to chew on would be a good idea with this girl. She's been learning to crate, and does well in a crate, especially if she has a chewie. If you have room in your life for some exuberant puppy love, call Judy to meet Dallas.

Please email Judy@mtcan.org or call (406) 961-3029 to arrange a meeting with Dallas.

Radar is a neutered male border collie. He is about a year old. He is still in the last part of the puppy stage. He seems to be housebroken and has done very well so far in the house. We are working on some basic commands. He is hungry acting but not food aggressive. He does bark once in a while when someone is at the door. He loves to cuddle and be around women but is extremely shy and reserved around men. He is a lover. He walks pretty well on a leash and doesn't jerk to get away. Loud noises scare him a bit at times. He is just starting to learn about toys and packs one around once in a while. He hasn't tried to play ball yet. He was scared of the sheep when he was introduced to them. He is in the house with two other border collies and a lab/heeler cross and he is doing fine around them.

He is fostered near Forsyth MT.

Ginger came into rescue in her darkest hour.  At around five months old, she was full of porcupine quills and was suffering from extreme malnutrition.  In addition, she was diagnosed with ringworm and demodex mange.  After a few months of very good vet care, and the love of a good foster home, Ginger is healthy and has begun her search for a home of her own.  Ginger’s rough start to life has not dampened her zest for life.  She is a fun loving and happy dog.  She gets along well with other dogs and although she has not lived in the company of cats, there is a high likelihood she could be convinced they are alright too.  Ginger is a very smart girl, but will need someone to remind her of her basic obedience skills as she is still very much a puppy.

If you think Ginger might be just the girl you’ve been looking for, please contact RezQ Dogs at rezqdogs@gmail.com or call Anita at 406-383-4473.

Balto is such a great dog, we just don’t understand why he has been in foster care so long.  Balto gets along well with most other dogs and loves to greet new people.  He’s an active boy, and would do best with an active family that will keep his inquisitive mind busy.  Balto is crate trained and knows some basic obedience.   Balto tends to be a bit of an escape artist, so someone willing to make the effort to keep him safe is a must.  Balto loves to go for car rides and is happiest when he is surrounded by people he shower with affection.

If you would like to learn more about Balto please contact his foster family - Jill, crazydaycarelady@bresnan.net,  home 251-2936 and cell 396-3145

ROSA: Lab/Shar Pei; Spayed Female; about 3 years old; approx. 40 pounds and 18" tall

Rosa's name not only indicates her reddish coloring and sweet, rosy disposition, but also her resolve to endure hardships like her namesake, Rosa Parks.  Having been through many trials such as unassisted motherhood, mange and mishandling by humans, Rosa is understandably timid in new situations.  But she has an innate need for companionship and once she starts to trust people she accepts attention with a wiggle and smile. Within two days she chose sleeping on a dog bed in her new foster home over hiding by herself outdoors, and she's been displaying excellent house manners.  Having been accepted by the other dogs, she plays well with them and she's also known to do fine with cats.  Rosa's anxious to show you how much she will appreciate the security of a permanent, loving home!

Please call Judy at (406) 961-3029 to meet Rosa.

Chex -2 year old - neutered male - large Miniature Australian Shepherd 18 inches, 35 pounds

Chex would be best placed in a situation that has only one other dog. He needs a lot of attention and is happiest if he is allowed to be with his person the majority of the time. Comfortable in his crate at night or at most anytime that is necessary he spend some time there, Chex does not bark while in his crate. Chex would love to be with someone who is active outdoors as a runner, biker, hiker or any outdoor activity. He enjoys Agility obstacles and would do well in training for Agility. He is a very friendly and loving and will be a devoted loyal dog. Chex has an excellent recall, will stay with me while loose on our property. He knows sit, down and is working on stay, which is the most difficult for him at this time as he needs to learn control of his anxiety. He is not yet house broken.

Please contact Rainy to meet Chex 406-951-4625

LUCKY BOY (LB)  Border Collie X   apx. 3-4 years old - neutered male approx.30 pounds

LUCKY is a very endearing companion dog. He was a storm rescue from Louisiana, and has lived happily in a home for 2 years, but recently he was surrendered back to the shelter. He is a "people" dog and good with children. He is also good with other animals but his main focus is on your presence. He is house trained and loves to ride in the truck and is comfortable in a house crate.

Lucky is too smart and active, like most Border Collies, and he is an accomplished escape-master. He just wants to be with you. I would suggest an electric top wire or invisible fencing but a safe country home could probably work. For me he jumps the fence to meet me in the driveway as I return. He does not run off or gets into trouble.  He is terrified of thunder, gun shots and fireworks. We can only imagine what has happened to him.

To meet LUCKY or gather more information call Jeanne at  406-961-2400 Hamilton

Kitty - sweet female cat - age unknown - not known if she is spayed.

This Kitty came to our door on during the below-freezing weather.  We had seen her out in the pasture some days earlier.  Totally domesticated, gets along with our dog.  When I brought her in, she ate 5 bowls of food as she was starving.  She is black, but has white front feet and white back legs.  White extends around her nose and lower lip and down her chest part-way.  Friendly kitty that sleeps in our guest bathroom sink.  This is definitely not a barn cat, but had no collar or tags.  She is litter-box trained. A search for the owner has been unsuccessful so she is looking for a new forever home.

Call Anne if you can give this girl a home (406)961-4230
