The desire of the Montana Companion Animal Network is to save as many healthy, adoptable animals as possible. Our mission then becomes how we can accomplish this and assist every shelter and rescue across Montana.
Our “vision” includes a commercially built Mobile Adoption Center to provide the twenty-eight shelters and fifty plus rescues throughout Montana with greater opportunities for finding homes for the animals in their care; by taking the animals where the people are! This vehicle will also be available to provide disaster services assistance to Montana communities during fire season or other tragic events.
Off-site adoption is becoming more and more feasible and a proven life saver everywhere it is used. Many potential loving families would be more than willing to adopt but either don’t know the shelters exist, can’t bring themselves to go to a shelter, or just can't get to the shelter for other reasons. Moving adoptable animals into the public eye brings the animals and the people together. Unfortunately there is a problem with the mobile adoption concept for most shelters and rescues….the cost. The majority of organizations just can’t squeeze their budgets to purchase and maintain a vehicle of their own and that’s where MTCAN comes in!
After much investigation into what’s called “retro fitting” and “manufacturing” our decision was clear. We need a “work horse” vehicle; one specifically made to travel thousands of miles a year and built to be healthy and safe for the animals and volunteers year round. Of course this dream does not come cheap, but the investment can be measured in how many lives can be saved!
In talking with manufacturers and satisfied customers throughout the US, we’ve set our sights on a company called LaBoit, Inc. The factory lies in Ohio but their vehicles are rolling all over the country. LaBoit, Inc. specializes in vehicles specifically built for Spay/Neuter Clinics, Mobile Vets, Adoption Centers and Disaster Services and builds their product from the chassis up. Our pick is a 26’ to 33’ standard floor plan with a few added options to make the vehicle suitable to our region's ever changing seasons.
Here’s what sets a manufactured center apart from retrofitting an RV or travel trailer:
These are just a few of the organizations that are having successes with this type of vehicle:

Exactly how will MTCAN’s dream work? Once the vehicle is purchased we will offer the Mobile Adoption Center to any shelter or rescue in Montana for their use at special events, community festivals etc. Organizations will reserve a date and MTCAN will come to them, pick up their animals and their representatives at their facility and take them where they need to go! In disaster situations, we will be there to assist in whatever is needed to keep animals safe.
MTCAN feels this program will prove to be a lifesaver throughout Montana and our committed volunteer team is ready to make it happen; maintaining and staffing this worthwhile program.
The bottom line is; to make this “vision” a reality, we need to raise $130,000 to $150,000 for vehicle purchase.
