Community Education Outreach Program/
Humane Education Learning Program
It Will Take a Community to Change and MTCAN is Here to HELP!
Montana Companion Animal Network was founded in an effort to stop the senseless loss of life of companion animals. Our mission has many components, one of which is the changing of how we view and value companion animals in our communities throughout Montana. To begin that process our Community Education Outreach Program was born.
Through our Humane Education Learning Program we provide educators, community leaders and concerned organizations with the information necessary to combat the social and financial costs of animal overpopulation and abuse in our community.
We strive to bring together ALL organizations that work toward a more compassionate society through the knowledge of the link between domestic violence and animal abuse. In the words of Mahatma Ghandi “The quality of a nation can be judged by the way it treats its animals.”

We in the Bitterroot and throughout Montana pride ourselves as being unique. It is the intent of the Community Education Outreach Program to promote that uniqueness by making Montana, starting with Ravalli County, one of the few but growing number of states that are more socially conscious and financially cost effective in dealing with the animals that we have CHOSEN to bring into our lives.
Presentations to the K-6th grade group focus on the “4 R’s Concept”: Respect, Responsibility, Resolve and Resourcefulness. We also provide animal safety lessons.
For the young teen groups, we reiterate basic responsibility and bring into the discussion “The Link” between animal abuse, neglect and domestic violence. Awareness is the first line of defense.
In talking to older teens and adults we try to raise awareness of the social and financial costs of animal overpopulation, abuse and neglect on the community as a whole. We will try to present a convincing argument that prevention is much more effective than treatment.
MTCAN will bring our message just for the asking. Presentations for pet care awareness and humane education are available to:
Small groups
Schools - in individual classrooms OR group assemblies
Civic Organizations
Youth groups
Parents and Teachers
Human Service Organizations
Minimum presentation time is thirty (30) minutes and content of the presentations may be oriented to any age group. Topics can range from basic animal care to current social issues. We can even tailor the program to fit specific subject areas such as math, science, social studies, community service etc.
Yes, change will take a community, and MTCAN is here to HELP with our Humane Education Learning Program .
