MTCAN says….TEACH KIDS TO CARE - STARTING WITH RAVALLI COUNTY!

Montana Companion Animal Network, Inc. (MTCAN) was founded for one purpose – to put an end to the senseless loss of life of healthy, adoptable companion animals.  Many animals, through no fault of their own, find themselves homeless in rescues and shelters throughout Montana, facing uncertain futures due to overpopulation.

Our “vision” to change this tragedy will take a community effort and MTCAN through its many programs and services hopes to help. With that mission in mind we begin the process, by establishing an “Adopt-A-Classroom” Project, bringing the message of the humane treatment of animals to our youth in Ravalli County.  We invite you to join us.

MTCAN recognizes that in this economy, individuals, businesses and organizations must watch their expenditures and every donation and advertising dollar must be spent where it will do the most good.  We hope that you will see the benefit in adopting a classroom as not only a “donation” or “advertising” for your business or organization but as a great community contribution!  Where else could $25 do so much good? And if you’re a business or organization where else could $25 get you so much exposure for a full year?

In the words of Mahatma Ghandi: "We must be the change we wish to see in the world" and MTCAN hopes that you will join us to reach out to the 150 elementary classrooms in Ravalli County and provide our youth with the tools they need to make this a better community!  Please read on and find out how easy it is to help change our community.

What Can Be Done?

Humane education teaches us how to care for the animals in our homes and communities.  It fosters kindness, respect and empathy for all beings, and it teaches responsible stewardship of the environment and its diverse inhabitants.  Humane education has one simple goal:  to make the world a more humane place.  Research shows a link between animal cruelty and domestic violence and MTCAN recognizes how crucial it is to educate people-particularly our youth about the humane treatment of animals and how to prevent cruelty which hopefully will also reduce the rate of domestic violence.

How Can It Be Done?

MTCAN’s Humane Education Learning Program (HELP) began in 2008 with volunteers visiting elementary classrooms to bring our youth the message of humane education.  Each workshop is geared to the specific age group of the classroom and kids are encouraged to share their thoughts and experiences.

Although these in-person presentations are wonderful, MTCAN feels that we need to go further and provide something more to our teachers in order for them to expand and continue to re-enforce the humane education message.  Though the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), MTCAN has found “Kind News” to be just what is needed.

“Kind News” is an award winning classroom newspaper, published by HSUS, that promotes good character and the humane treatment of animals through articles, activities and projects.  Through the HSUS a classroom can receive “Kind News” by being in an organization’s “Adopt-A-Classroom” program.

When a classroom is “adopted” they receive a bi-monthly subscription to “Kind News” with enough copies for each child, a teacher’s guide, a mega-sized calendar poster of fun facts and teachers have access to reproducible worksheets to supplement each issue.  Each “adoption” is only $25 which includes everything and whoever “adopts” the classroom gets their name on each teacher issue as the sponsor!  You read that right…all that for only $25!

What Can I Do To Help?

The answer is simple -”Adopt-A-Classroom”!  By joining MTCAN in our effort to save the lives of healthy, adoptable companion animals you not only enrich the lives of these homeless animals you also help to create a better, more humane community.
